Massive Impact by Central Wisconsin Metal Manufacturers Alliance and Hastreiter Joining Board of Directors

Kylan Hastreiter  –  February 29, 2020

An association of machine shops, fabrication shops, other manufacturers and associate members in Central Wisconsin, CWIMMA is a collection of 67 businesses focused on the development of local talent and education for manufacturing.

Where the skilled tradesman shortage is in the millions across the United States, this collection of Wisconsin manufacturers recognize that working together we can bring awareness to manufacturing (you can’t go into a field you don’t know exists) and further support education to increase participation in the skilled trades, such as machine shops and other manufacturers. CWIMMA accomplishes this through events like the Heavy Metal Tour where, since it has started, over 20,000 students have visited more than 100 manufactures. In 2019 over 1,400 students participated in welding and machining competitions where over $25,000 in prizes and $20,000 in scholarships were given out. Summer programs have been developed with local technical colleges, such as Mid-State Technical College where high school students and young adults are able to get free college classes in machining, paid for by CWIMMA. That summer program, called Metal Mania at Mid-State, has a 100% success rate in having students enter manufacturing/engineering.

In 2019 over 1,400 students participated in welding and machining competitions where over $25,000 in prizes and $20,000 in scholarships were given out.

CWIMMA is ultimately a collaboration between businesses, K-12 and higher education, as well as government agencies to provide career opportunities and workforce development. Hastreiter Industries has been actively involved in CWIMMA where Vice President Kylan Hastreiter was, in December of 2019, voted on to the CWIMMA Board of Directors. It is an honor to serve his fellow businesses members and the community in this new capacity. Those at CWIMMA look forward to working in collaboration to build up our local communities.
