COMMUNITY, GIVING BACK
Hastreiter Industries Sponsors Machine Tool Lab at New College Facility
Kylan Hastreiter – July 31, 2020
Hastreiter Industries is sponsoring the Machine Tool Lab at the new educational center being built by Mid-State Technical College in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The new facility will be a 53,000 sq. ft. Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology and Apprenticeship Center. The facility will train more than 400 students annually across a dozen programs and includes a strong focus on next generation Industry 4.0 technology and other technologies such as 5 axis machining.
Wisconsin is ranked #2 nationally for Manufacturing Intensity. As manufacturing is a key economic sector for Central Wisconsin, this facility will play a key role for communities and businesses in advanced manufacturing such as Hastreiter Industries. With the nation and Wisconsin experiencing a historic shortage in skilled trades workers such as machinists, especially in advanced areas like 5 axis machining, Hastreiter Industries feels it is critical to support the expansion of the training capacity in these fields.
Mid-State Technical College currently offers several of the programs in Wisconsin Rapids, located in the neighboring county to Stevens Point. Some of the programs will be relocated to the more populous city of Stevens Point, while most programs are new or expanded for availability on both campuses.

Kylan Hastreiter speaking at the project launch event, July 23rd 2020
On July 23rd, the facility was officially announced along with a donation of 9 acres. Public campaigning for additional funds has now started. As an early supporter, Hastreiter Industries was the second business to commit support. Kylan Hastreiter spoke at the Project Launch event where two more companies Heartland Farms and Investors Community Bank each came forward with $100,000 commitments. Breaking ground on the new facility is expected for October of 2021.
The new machine tool lab will include 5 axis machining capabilities, advanced programming classes, as well as CMM Metrology and other standard machine tool classes. Overall, Mid-State’s forward thinking and drive has provided excellent support for hundreds of businesses, including Hastreiter Industries. One of our founders, Ken Hastreiter, (pictured far right in cover photo) graduated from the Mid-State Machine Tool Associates Degree program in 1983. In fact his son Kody Hastreiter (pictured second from left in cover photo) graduated from the same program in 2017. Granted, the program has significantly evolved through the decades and will continue to do so with the latest technology and advancements in the new Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology and Apprenticeship Center.
